Join us for the 7th Annual Beer & Chili Festival on Saturday April 21, 2018 at Roosevelt Park. Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival benefits the local non-profit 4 R Friends and features a chili cook off competition (industry, individual, vegetarian, People's Choice) and beer tastings provided by local breweries. Bike parking will be available on the fence and dogs are welcome. Children are allowed at the event but must be accompanied but an adult at all times. Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival is a fundraiser for 4 R Friends and will raise money to help provide life saving emergency care for stray, abandoned, and shelter pets, and essential care for pets of low income families. Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival will feature a chili cook off competition and beer tastings provide by local breweries. A perfect day at the park with friends and family! 

 

Please read the below rules and regulations carefully.  

Signing this form indicates that you have read and agree to the Rules & Requirements.

 

Rules

  1. All teams will provide at least 5 gallons of chili and bring their own prep/serving table. Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival will provide serving bowls, spoons, napkins and a People’s Choice voting box to each team. 
  2. Chili must be cooked onsite. Propane, coal and wood chips are all allowed. 

 

Fire and Health Department Requirements

  1. Contestants will provide their own barbecue or propane stove, fire extinguisher, a gallon of bottled water, drip pan and a sanitation area (plastic tub, water and sanitary cleaner). Note- Most BBQs have drip pans. If you do not have a drip pan, cardboard or absorbent tarp will also work. Grease stains on the sidewalk or grass will result in deposit being fortified. 
  2. If using propane, contestants will chain their tank upright to their BBQ or table. 
  3. If using barrels to BBQ, contestants must bring cinder blocks or bricks to raise the barrel off the ground. 
  4. Industry contestants must sign the mandatory Health Department Craven Act form that documents that 100% of your chili is a donation to the Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival. We will provide this form at check-in.
  5. Contestants can bring small outdoor signage or A-Frame for advertising. You may also distribute your business menus. If you do not have signage, we will have poster board and sharpies to create your own.

 

Important Event Info

  1. Mandatory Contestant Meeting at 8:00 a.m. 
  2. Contestants will be provided with ONE table. 
  3. Check-in starts at 7 a.m., ready for tastings at noon. and break-down starts at 5pm, vehicles may enter after 5:30 p.m. We strongly recommend that you arrive at 7 a.m. to give you enough time to prep. 
  4. All vehicles, debris and signage must vacate park no later than 6:30 p.m. 
  5. We will be obtaining permits from City of Sacramento & ABC
  6. A copy of 501(c)3 letter with your tax donation will be distributed at the meeting at 8:00 a.m. 

 

Judging

Chili will be judged by a panel of 3-5 judges- Chili will be assigned a number (1 to 5 with 5 being the best and 1 being the worst) in the following categories- Flavor, Aesthetic and Aroma. We will be crowning four winners- One Industry, One Individual, One Vegetarian (open to industry and individual) and One People’s Choice. 

 

Required Deposit- $100.00 

$100.00 deposit will be returned to teams the day of the event. If the team does not show up, the deposit will not be returned and will be considered a donation to Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival.

 

Entry in the chili cook-off contest includes:

 

Individual Category includes two 5 oz. beer tasting mugs. Industry Category includes four 5 oz beer tasting mugs. And additional four Full Access tickets can be purchased by teams for friends/family at the discounted price of $20.00 (regular price is $40.00). Request:  Two 15 gallon kegs

  • Sacramento Beer & Chili Festival will pay each brewery a $150 stipend and will supply them two full-access tickets to the Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival in exchange for them providing two 15-gallon kegs. 
  • Please note that you may bring merchandise to sell with no financial obligations / commission splits to Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival and its partners. 

 

Important Event Info: 

Each attendee will be required to show identification at the entrance, and 21+ year old attendees will be given a wristband to indicate “drinking age”.

 

 

  • Attendance:  estimated 1250+
  • Admission will be purchased in a remote booth to adhere to Sacramento Police Dept. Regulations.
  • Attendees will be given 5 oz mugs for unlimited tastes
  • Each confirmed beer vendor will be featured on the Sacramento Beer and Chili website and social media. Social media includes Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Ice & additional 5 oz tasting cups will be provided to brewers.  Please bring dispensing equipment and tubs to contain kegs
  • Mandatory Beer Garden Meeting at 11 a.m. Brewers with dispensing vehicles will retrieve parking permits at Beer Garden Meeting.
  • Brewers will be provided with ONE table. We ask that brewers bring a table if possible as well. 
  • Check-in starts at 9 a.m., ready for tastings at 11:00 a.m. and break-down starts at 5pm, vehicles may enter after 5:30pm
  • All vehicles, debris and signage must vacate park no later than 6:30 p.m. 
  • We will be obtaining permits from City of Sacramento & ABC
  • A copy of 501(c)3 letter will be distributed at the Beer Garden Meeting at 11:30 a.m. Letters can be requested in advance as well via email to cameron@sacramentobeerandchilifestival.com.
